About

Adams Lodge is situated in the United Masonic Club in Sheerness, on the small but historical Isle of Sheppey, which is located just off the north coast of Kent.

It was consecrated in 1797and is one of the oldest lodges in England and as such, much of the ‘old’ ritual has been preserved.

We generally meet on the first Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August which is our summer break and January which is a white table event. After our December meeting we invite our partners, friends and family to join us downstairs for our Christmas meal and festivities.

Our membership is good and is steadily increasing. We have a great mix of members ranging from newly admitted masons to our more experienced members who are ready to help and advise at any time. Our age range is wide and our members are from diverse backgrounds.

Adams Lodge is renowned for its high standard of ceremonial work and all new members are given the opportunity to participate, should they wish to do so. We hold two lodge of instruction each month, which enables members to learn and rehearse our ceremonies.

We warmly welcome visiting brethren to attend our ceremonies and to join us afterwards at our festive board, where we enjoy great food, wine and company.

The Isle of Sheppey itself has a wonderful and diverse history. It is the birthplace of aviation. The Short Brothers constructed their first aircraft on the island on land next to Muswell Manor.

Sheppey is also proud of its nautical heritage. It is said that Admiral Lord Nelson learned many of his seafaring skills in the waters of Queenborough harbour.

The area has been a hub of maritime activity throughout the century’s – Sheerness established itself as a Royal Navy Dockyard in the 17th century and served as such until 1960.

Sheppey also has a royal connection with King Henry VIII often staying at Shurland castle and he also choose the island as the place to celebrate his honeymoon with Anne Boleyn.

Sheppey also is home to Minster Abbey, which occupies the highest hilltop position on the island. It is a beautiful Grade 1 listed building and National Monument which was founded in 664AD by Queen Sexburga.
